Storytellers Captivate Elgin

Held at the First United Methodist Church on November 23rd, the event transformed the venue into a warm, inviting space filled with laughter, gasps, and heartfelt applause. From 5:00 to 6:30 PM, eight remarkable storytellers captivated the audience with their craft, weaving tales that ranged from humorous to poignant, from historical to fantastical.

The storytelling roster featured an eclectic mix of talents

Kati Taylor shared her touching and humorous story, "The Tooth Fairy Had to Die," exploring the bittersweet lies parents tell to preserve childhood magic.

Meanwhile, Katie Kelfer-Taylor, an Austin-based writer, musician, and educator, was inspired by reflections from her decades of teaching college students and her adventures in the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Amy Bluemel, a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, enchanted the crowd with "Rabbit's Song," a tale steeped in the rich traditions of Southeastern tribes.

Maggid Reverend Rabbi Dr. Raine Teller, president of the Central Texas Storytellers Guild, offered inspirational and insightful stories that resonated deeply with the audience.

Donna Ingham, a celebrated Texas storyteller, brought humor and wit to the stage, showcasing why she has been crowned the "Biggest Liar in Texas" multiple times.

Lorene McHutcheon Stilwell  transported the audience to a world of faeries, clans, and seal folk with her vivid storytelling inspired by her Scottish heritage.

Reba Ott, known affectionately as "Mother Nature," shared engaging tales rooted in nature and folklore.

David Thompson  delighted the audience with epic sagas from around the world, infusing each story with his signature Southern charm.

The event was a resounding success, highlighting the power of storytelling to unite people of all ages and backgrounds showcasing our town's commitment to fostering cultural and artistic experiences.

Thanks to the vision and dedication of David Thompson (above), this cherished global tradition found a welcoming home in Elgin.

Well Sirs. I was lookin for a little history cuz I wasn't too happy with what the history book said. I knew there had to be more to the start of the little town of Elgin, Texas and anyhow the history books don't always tell the truth.
